Being the member of the WEJ that interacts with their client base the most, Jackie is the one who fields a lot of customer complaints. And since those customers more often than not are pirates, a lot of the complaints she gets are bounty related.

“My bounty should be higher than this!” “Can you please find a way to lower my bounty..” “I don’t go by this name anymore, can you send in a request to change it?”

Some requests are more reasonable than others but she has to turn them all down regardless. What a lot of folks aren’t aware of is that bounty posters are collaborative project with Marine headquarters, they are the ones that set the bounty, the pirate's moniker and all that other good stuff. The WEJ just has to put it all together and print it out, they don’t have any sway in the department. Sure, on several occasions they’ve been able to coin a clever nickname that ends up sticking but that’s the extent.

Bounty pictures however, that’s all on the newspaper's ever so hardworking photography department! Headed by Mr Take D Photo himself, Attach! Jackie's gotten about a million and one complaints about bounty pictures being too this or being too that and she'll be ready to bat for her fellow workers. It’s not a particularly easy or safe job people! There's gonna be a blurry or unflattering photo every once in a while, it’s called human error! Though sometimes even she can’t defend some of the work…

“Attach? You, uh, you busy right now man?”

The man was unreasonably relaxed for this or any other hour of the day but that’s because he was in it. The zone. Every creative knows the zone cannot be messed with, moved or disrupted so he calmly turned to his youngest coworker.

“Just a touch Jackie but knowing you this must be urgent, anything I can help you with?”

“Well I wanted to but now I see you’re in the zone and I don’t wanna ruin that…”

“Nonsense! I am not such an easily swayed man! The fattest click of the West Blue is here at your disposal! Fire away!”

*big exhale* “Alright…It’s just some bounty poster complaints-“

“Young lady that doesn’t bother me in the slightest! I’m great with criticism!”

Almost immediately Attach sauve demeanour burst like a popped ballon and he returned to be the meek, mousy, easily distracted photographer Jackie knew the best.

At this point Jackie had fully crossed the room and was looming over the checker printed man as he tried to shove his entire head into his hat.

“Attach…”

*sigh* “I left the lens cap on.”

A brief pause.

“Okay that clears that up…but who is this because I can tell you with certainty this isn’t Black Leg Sanji.”

Attach popped his head back out and, for the first time, took a good look at the poster.

“..I have no idea.”

“Isn’t that?? A problem?? This is a potentially innocent man were sentencing to crimes he never committed!”

“I’m sure this is just a poorly drawn Marine sketch, I doubt they’d do something like that, they’re not that sloppy and poorly trained. Right?”

So I was thinking about the various bits of Wendell and Wild merch that I would personally love to see and purchase from stores. I have a small plethora of things that I can think of. One of the things is a poster or something of Raul’s art to mount or display on my wall. Why? It’s something relating to Raul that isn’t on a t shirt or something generic that I can think would best show my appreciation of him than on any other type of merch. And he DESERVES some. I respect artists’ work, who talk about deep shit in their art that’s done symbolically and it’s also gorgeous why wouldn’t I? And now, I’ve found it priority for me to speak on this one thing just separately right now, and you will see exactly why. Cause what I JUST seen this morning has given me urgent cause of reckoning!

I just was minding my business and doing things around the house. I put the movie on of course as is my custom as a bonafide, STAN. I see this in the credits as I look over. my jaw DROPPED, and when I thought about why they might have changed it I was immediately depressed:

WHY DID YOU CENSOR HER? Raul couldn’t have done this! This must be the initial drawing. It makes no sense to me.

People sexualize, fetishize a feminine body in every piece of media. Disproportionate, overly sexualized bodies all the time in animation. We put pink bows, lace and ribbons on women’s and GIRL’S bras and underwear, like it’s Christmas Eve but we never show or talk about what’s under a woman’s clothes and it’s not only exhausting to see. But degrading of a woman’s body. Not to mention all the actual harm it does.

The fact that they put it in the credits doesn’t do anything besides sweep it under the rug still and taunt us all at the same time!

How on earth is this “too much” for people when we have lord Belzer shitting out souls from his literal ass? I mean, really

Were they afraid this will turn David on? Or what Becky will say, who goes to every pta meeting and disproportionately freaks out about supposed “sex material” in media and literature, sex education? Hey, anon.

Thanks for reaching out and also being patient with my responses-I'm back with my laptop again and I'm a little more available. My answer got really long, so I'm just going to put it under the read more.

It sounds like the past couple days have been really really tough, and that you've been having a lot of complicated feelings. I bet it seems kind of conflicting when part of you is feeling like you could have a full and happy future, and part of you is feeling really panicked and unsure how to get to that future. Yesterday seemed very hard--I know I always feel a lot more stressed and have a harder time coping when I’m not able to sleep. So I just want to recognize that and say that I’m really glad you’ve made it through the past couple days and are still here, even though it’s been incredibly difficult. It’s important and I’m proud that you’re still trying to do things like eat and sleep when you can, even when things are feeling so out of control and panicked. 

You mentioned thinking about the future and wanting to get there, but not knowing how to get there and not knowing if it’s possible with this illness. I think it can be really hard in the moment, when all we’ve known in the past several months is this intense experience of intrusive thoughts and panic and feelings of wrongness to even imagine beyond what we’re feeling in the moment. And especially when it comes to obsessive and intrusive thoughts, I know I sometimes would get a new set of worries about the future and feeling like I didn’t want what I was experiencing now to taint that experience, and not knowing how any of this would be possible. I do just want to affirm that I know a lot of people with OCD who are able to live fulfilling and happy lives even with their OCD diagnoses. Their relationship with their obsessive thoughts has changed sufficiently enough that they no longer feel the same amount of distress with their thoughts and compulsions, or they’ve found coping skills and meds that help, or figured out ways to accommodate their OCD so that they can do the things that bring them joy. I don’t want to diminish what you’re going through right now--that pain and distress is very real. I just do want to mention that I think there are more options and that you don’t need to be completely free from your OCD to be able to get to that future happiness you that you have been imagining. 

Right now, it seems like eating and sleeping have been getting harder, and that suicide is starting to feel more urgent. I know the thoughts have been super overwhelming and making all these daily tasks more difficult and I really empathize with that. I saw that you mentioned a specific date that you’re thinking about. Would you be willing to explore thinking about possible ways you might make a cope ahead plan and think of things to do that might help make it a tiny bit easier to get through that day? I’m going to list out a bunch of possible coping strategies to see if any of them resonate with you, and link again to the folder with a template for a coping plan that you could fill out if that felt possible. 

Distraction: watching movies/tv that you like, listening to music, talking to your partner, going on social media, etc. 

Changing your physical environment: if there’s one room you tend to spend a lot of time in or feel worse in, trying to go to a new space or room in your house. Or even things like bringing in new blankets and pillows, printing out a poster and putting it up-anything that helps try to make your space feel different or more comfortable. 

Expressing emotions: doing things like writing vent poetry, listening to emotional music, ripping up paper, punching into a pillow or screaming into a pillow

Distress tolerance skills: I like to think of these skills as things that essentially signal to our brain to pause for a second and take a step back from the distress. These are things like putting your face into cold water, changing temperature, short moments of intense exercise, deep breathing, muscle relaxation. I linked worksheets for these in the distress tolerance worksheet above. 

Five minute strategy: If you get to a moment where thoughts are feeling very urgent, breaking down time into really small chunks and telling yourself that you just need to make it through the next five minutes, and then make it through the next five minutes. Trying to chunk your time into smaller moments can sometimes help it feel more manageable. Or things like telling yourself that if you’re having a day where you feel really convinced you need to act, just wait one more day and get through to the next day before acting. 

I wonder if you would be able to think about what things might be helpful or have helped in the past, even if they only help like 1% and can’t make the thoughts go away completely. It might be worth trying to make a list of things that you can try to cope with if you get to a day where your thoughts about dying are feeling incredibly urgent, so that in those moments when everything is feeling even more intense, you know that you have a few options of things you can try.

I know a lot of this stuff I listed can feel frustrating or unhelpful to try when the intensity of your distress is really high and overwhelming, but even just having a few options of things that can make me feel slightly less panicked sometimes help me to be able to get through a really tough day. Would you be willing to brainstorm ways to make sleeping or eating more manageable? When those things are contributing to our experiences of crisis, trying to work out what might make those even slightly easier might be worth looking at. I don’t know what you’ve already tried, but things like having meal replacement shakes like boost or ensure, having Gatorade on hand, trying melatonin for sleep or other sleep aids, might be worth looking into. I want you to be able to make it through this week and get the support you need to reach the future you’ve been imagining. 

I can completely understand your anxiety around your parents mentioning the psych ward, and understand why them mentioning it has brought up some new intense feelings about suicide. Not wanting to go to the psych ward is valid, and I wonder if there’s anything you can think of that would make it easier to communicate how you’re feeling about the psych ward to your parents. There are some other options for getting OCD support that can provide a more comprehensive level of support than just once a week therapy, but still let you live at home, have your phone, and have more freedom.

Have you or your parents heard of partial hospitalization programs (PHP) or intensive outpatient therapy (IOP)? PHP is a program where you go and receive therapy services for 5-7 days a week for around 6 hours each day. You can learn coping skills, get individual therapy, access meds if that makes sense for you, meet other people going through similar things, but still go sleep at home. There are even some PHP programs that are completely virtual so you can do them over zoom at home. IOP is similar, but it’s for about 3 hours 3 to 4 times a week. PHP and IOP programs definitely aren’t perfect and still can be sort of frustrating or boring at times, can be hard to feel like your autonomy isn’t always respected by clinicians, and can also be emotionally difficult to do intensive therapy. But they are an option that would still be less restrictive than the psych ward, and might be worth trying to communicate to your parents if they bring up the psych ward again. Some programs that I’ve heard some good things about for their PHP specifically are Rogers Behavioral Health and Pathlight Mood/Anxiety Center. (I went to the eating disorder version of Pathlight and can speak a lot more specifically about what that would look like in terms of scheduling, rules, that sort of thing if anyone’s interested). If you look up PHP or IOP programs in your location, there are probably options that you or your parents could look into.
